Creating a Process with the First Flow Element

Create a first flow element; this will automatically create a new process.

Prerequisites

The diagram does not contain any elements.

Context

The elements which can be linked by sequence flows are shown as flow nodes in a BPMN diagram, i.e. task, subprocess, event and gateway. If one of these elements is dragged into an empty BPMN diagram, Innovator automatically creates a new process which contains this element.

Note:

Please note that this mechanism only works with the event icon for events but not with the various event definitions.

How to proceed
  1. Click in the BPMN diagram.

The Design tab is shown in the Create Diagram Content gallery.

  2. Drag an event, a task, a subprocess or a gateway from the Create Diagram Content gallery and drop it in the diagram.

A new process with the default name "Default" is created. The inserted element is placed in this process. The name is automatically selected for editing if it is a task or subprocess.

  3. Enter the name for the flow node and confirm with the [Enter] key.
  4. Rename the automatically-created process.
